Exceptional customer service deserves recognition

Have you received exceptional service from a member of staff at Keltruck? If so, please tell us about it.

Congratulations to:

  • Mark Hawkins, Cheltenham for "being a great ambassador for your company. An extremely helpful person." From N Bowrey of Malagod, Southmead

  • Gary Hughes & Neil Vazey, West Bromwich. "After giving Gary the initial specification/budget at enquiry stage he went on to find us a fantastic lorry which met all our criteria and his handover to Neil at Willenhall to look after the servicing of our vehicle was first class. Neil has been fantastic from day one because he has provided us with the quick turn around we require on a few occasions which has helped us no end. Also with his expertise he has shown Keltruck don't stop looking after the customers when the sale of the truck has been done and we look forward to dealing with you again in the future." From Mr Richard Vickers of Barnshaws, Coseley

  • Neil Evans, Lutterworth for "being positive and enthusiastic and a great help with a breakdown he was doing." From Mr Leigh Brown of TruckEast, Peterborough

Lutterworth mechanic wins a podium finish at national Apprentice of the Year competition

Philip Ganley from Keltruck Lutterworth battled it out against hopefuls from across the UK to come third at heavy truck, bus, coach and engine manufacturer Scania (Great Britain) Limited’s Apprentice of the Year competition.

The 20 year old started on the Scania Apprentice Programme in September 2007 and was handpicked as one of the top four best performing apprentices in the year. On the day of the ceremony apprentices were put through their paces at Scania’s national training centre in Loughborough with a series of tasks to compete for a spot on the podium. Automotive training provider Skillnet Limited, which delivers the Scania Apprentice Programme, had a team of assessors on hand to judge the competition.

Winner of third place for the prize of Scania’s First Year Apprentice of the Year, Philip Ganley, said: “The competition was really tough but I am so happy to have made a place in the final in my first year. I’d like to thank everyone involved in my training that has helped make this possible.”

Four finalists from each year group had their skills put to the test with a series of tasks, including testing of their knowledge on Multi; Scania’s electronic service guide, two workshop tasks and a series of technical questions. The winners were announced on the day and Managing Director of tool manufacturer Snap On Tools, Terry Barcham, was on hand to award Philip with his certificate and prizes from Scania and Teng Tools.

Phil Haywood, Depot Manager at Keltruck Ltd in Lutterworth, said: “Philip is a real asset to the company, and is more than deserving of this accolade. We are very proud of everything that he has achieved. We have also awarded Phil with some prizes in appreciation of his achievement (a screw driver set and a Scania jacket of his choice)."

Stephen Brown, Programme Manager for Scania (Great Britain) Limited, said: “The calibre of apprentices we have on the programme is very high and it was tough competition for the learners. We are very proud of all the finalists, who worked hard for a place in the final.”

The Scania Apprentice Programme, which is delivered by Skillnet, was started in 1995 and combines on-the-job training across its network of 90 dealers with block training at Scania’s national training centre. The four-year programme leads to an Advanced Apprenticeship qualification and an NVQ Level 3 in Heavy Motor Vehicle Maintenance and Repair, as well as the Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) Technical Diploma.

The event itself was the first the company has held since the Apprenticeship programme changed to the Institute of the Motor Industry’s (IMI) Technical Certificate in 2005.

Stephen Brown continues: “We are all looking forward to next year’s event which will also include the first Scania Graduation Ceremony.”

Apprenticeships are fully-funded by the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) for people aged 16 – 19 and living in England. People over 19 can still apply for an Apprenticeship but funding will need to be support-funded by their employer. For further information about the Scania Apprentice Programme visit www.scania.co.uk/apprenticeships or telephone 01530 242 230.

For more information about Skillnet and any of its automotive Apprenticeship programmes, visit www.skillnet.org.uk or telephone 0208 429 7222.
