News from
Keltruck –
Authorised Scania Dealer
|
Welcome
to Keltruck's July 2009 e-newsletter. I hope that
you enjoy reading about our latest news &
developments – please contact Chris D. Kelly, Marketing
Director (contact details below), with any comments or
feedback.
As
we pass the half way point in the year the economic outlook is still somewhat
bleak but, despite the difficult trading conditions and the impact on
our new vehicle sales department, our aftersales operations remain buoyant by comparison. This is based
upon our strong contract portfolio and service offerings; this type of packaging – be it basic service contracts or full repair and maintenance
contracts – helps our customers spread their own costs and budgets accordingly.
This core business offering
is founded
upon the 26 years experience we have as a Scania main dealer
– something that many of our smaller competitors are unable to offer. Perhaps this is just one of the reasons that we’ve seen four independent repairers fail across our territory in the past two
months alone and I’m sure that, as the recession continues to bite, we’ve not seen the last failure. On a similar front, spurious parts suppliers have been struggling to compete with the exchange rate affecting their supply chains, many of which have in the past been domiciled in mainland Europe.
I
believe the moral of the story here is that, in difficult times, we’ll still be here to support our customers old and
new – we
remain the people to trust and depend on. So, give us a call if we can assist with any service or maintenance budget
plans and, as for parts – again you might just be surprised
at just how cost effective some of the options here
are too.
With
best wishes,

Chris
Kelly

New
vehicle of the month
Nottingham based
Consort Limited recently took delivery of 6 x Scania P230DB4x2MNA sleeper cabs complete with 30ft GRP boxvan bodies &
tailifts, all on full 5 year Repair & Maintenance contracts with
Keltruck Sutton.
Consort's Steve Bird recently e-mailed Keltruck's directors to say:
"Consort Ltd recently placed an order for six 18 tonne rigid vehicles replacing existing vehicles also supplied by Keltruck. I would like to take this opportunity to raise the following points. Although the price of the new vehicles had to be competitive, as it was the service we have received on our existing vehicles has been OUTSTANDING and the decision to 'move' to another supplier/manufacturer would have been difficult and disappointing. Our drivers appreciate the vehicles. Fuel consumption is good. The reliability has been outstanding. Thanks to all, particularly 'our' salesman, Steve Fletcher, and your fantastic maintenance depot at Sutton in Ashfield, both admin and maintenance. Long may our relationship continue."
The vehicles were supplied by
Keltruck's Steve Fletcher.

Meet
the team
This
month sees the fourth
installment of our new
feature where,
each month, we profile a member of the top team. This
month
Fleet
Sales Director & longest serving member of staff, Mike
Kelly...
Kelnews: How would you describe your role at Keltruck?
MSK: The sexiest job in the
company Dealing with the larger fleet customers, entertaining
& courting them & obviously trying to encourage many new names into the fold.
To be fair this came with the territory when I had the Sales Director role so comes naturally.
Kelnews: How long have you worked for Keltruck?
MSK: Man
& boy. Joined big cousin (Chris) in 1979, long before becoming
Keltruck.
Kelnews: What did you do before Keltruck?
MSK: As I said,
I joined the company pre-Keltruck. Then we were a used truck dealer
& had a small rental company & haulage
business that became a pretty big rental company and pretty big haulage
business. I quickly learnt about the industry as I took my CPC within weeks of joining the and became the Transport
Manager (I couldn't find my way home back then, let alone send the lads all over the world, but
we got through it!)
Kelnews: So how did you get into the industry then?
MSK: Chris invited me to join him when he had already built up a nice little business and could justify someone to help
(or hinder! ) around the place.
Kelnews: What do you like about the industry?
MSK: The people!
I've made numerous great friends through the years. We do have some real characters in this industry
Kelnews: What do you do outside of work?
MSK: Not a great deal actually!
Real social animal so never in
–
mainly out for dinner
etc. Trying to play golf but absolutely hideous at the game
& about to throw the towel in. Rather sad that I like the precious time at home to clean the cars
(six in the family & the kids haven't learnt what a sponge
is
–
my fault I hear you say!)
& generally titivate around the place (got lots of grass to cut). Am I getting
old?!
Kelnews: What was your first car?!
MSK: Mk1
Ford Escort NOC 564F. You can always remember your first car
& first love (least said the better because Gill thinks
that's her!)
Kelnews: So what does the future hold?
MSK: My cup is always
half full so the future's Orange!
Scania
EGR Euro 5 vehicles deliver outstanding fuel economy for Benson Box
Limited
Successful fuel performance trials have led to the addition of three 480 horsepower Scania R 480 LA6x2/4MNA twinsteer tractor units with Scania EGR Euro 5 engines to the fleet of Bardon, Leicestershire-based Benson Group member company, Benson Box Limited. Supplied by Keltruck, Scania's dealer for the Midlands, the new vehicles join seven Scania vehicles already in service with Benson Group.
The fuel trials were conducted over a 12-month period with two vehicles operating within the Benson Group transport fleet on national distribution as far afield as Aberdeenshire in the north and Cornwall in the south west. Throughout the trial period the vehicles were coupled to double-deck 50-pallet trailers and operated at their maximum weight of 44-tonnes GTW. Benson Group reports an average of 9.3 miles per gallon was returned by one vehicle, with the second delivering 9 miles per gallon. This performance convinced Benson Box Limited to further invest in Scania Euro 5 technology and a third 480 horsepower truck, this one a 4x2 tractor unit, has now entered service with its fleet.
"As an established Scania operator, we have long viewed the marque as a statement of quality which very much reflects our own core values," comments Benson Group Chairman, Andrew Benson. "In terms of the new generation Scania EGR Euro 5 vehicles, having researched the market and conducted our own extensive fuel trials, we are extremely impressed by their fuel efficiency. Our operating experience means Scania's reliability and performance are already well proven within our operation and the fuel efficiency of the new Euro 5 range has compounded our satisfaction in the brand as it will enable us to further reduce our carbon footprint. "
Benson Box's three new vehicles are fully backed by a five year repair and maintenance contract, which will be fulfilled by
Keltruck's service centre in
Groby, Leicestershire. The vehicles are now operating on nightly trunk services between the firm's four manufacturing plants in Bardon, Crewe, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Gateshead.
Founded by Andrew Benson's grandfather, William Watson Benson, Benson Box Limited was established almost 90 years ago. The company is today based on Interlink Park, Bardon, Leicestershire in a purpose-built production facility representing an investment of more than £20m. The firm is primarily involved in the production of finished coloured carton packaging for the food industry.

Exceptional
customer service deserves recognition
Have
you received exceptional service from a member of
staff at Keltruck? If
so, please tell
us about it.
Congratulations
to:
-
Verna Smith, Karen Gibson & Louise Lack at
Keltruck
Burton on Trent. From Steve Pilkington of Salford Van Hire Ltd, for
" exceptional level of service".
-
Paul
Stanley at Keltruck
Tamworth. From Steve Pilkington of Salford Van Hire
Ltd. "Looking after the MoTs on a fleet of 5,000 vehicles isn't an easy task. The level of service received from the dealer network can mean the difference between smooth, seamless operation, and disaster. I recently contacted Paul in order to plan the
MoT testing of a large fleet of vehicles for one of our valued customers. It was like a breath of fresh air to find he'd already done it. I appreciate that for any service agent, dealing with an owner/operator is one thing, but when a vehicle hire company is involved too, it must be a nightmare. However, when I asked Paul to make some changes to the schedule to avoid the planned
MoT test dates clashing with the road tax renewal, he addressed it quickly, efficiently, and with the kind of friendly attitude that makes the difference between
'one of those days', and a pleasant one. If every service department I deal with had someone like Paul, I'm sure I'd still have my hair. Well
done Keltruck & Scania!" Click

Break
a leg? No problem...
They make 'em tough up in Cloughiecountry and it would take more than a
broken leg to stop Keltruck Nottingham Account Manager Steve
Fletcher from getting out there and doing his thing – as this
photo shows.
Steve managed to snap both his tibia
and fibula as he went in for what he describes as a 50-50 tackle while
playing for his local Sunday league team, Bulwell Rangers
F.C.
According to Steve, following two days of forced rest ("which I
spent working from home on the laptop") he was back selling.
"My workmates have been great, giving me a hand whenever I've
needed one, but on the whole I'm managing OK."
In fact, having recently secured several major deals, we'd
say he's not doing too bad at all.

Bloor
take delivery of two more
Mark Bloor of Bloor Logistics
Ltd of Bilston, West Midlands contacted his local Scania dealer when he required two additional vehicles for a new contract he had just won.
Mark, who purchased his first Scania from Keltruck account manager
Alan Hill 3 years ago, contacted Keltruck again to help when a quick turn around was needed.
The new contract, delivering housing to the
MoD and Premiere Inn Hotels for Corus Living Solution, required Mark to start ASAP.
"I realised that I would need more vehicles to cover the job and, as I already own
Scanias, it was the obvious choice. Their reliability and the fact that Keltruck
is close to my operating centre and operate 24 hours is a big
bonus" commented Mark.
The two new additions,
2 x 2003 Scania RT124LA 6x2/4 NA420s, were prepared by Keltruck Burton and given 12 month
MOTs, had roof beacons fitted and were livered in the
operator's colours.
Mark
added "I asked Alan for the vehicles to be ready for Tuesday
21 July which didn't leave much time to turn them around. It turned out that
both vehicles were ready three days before and I collected both on the Saturday morning."

Lorra
lorry love for couple
Little
Pot Transport driver Mark Nicholls recently married
Michelle Green at Dudley Register Office.
The
wedding was, however, a somewhat unusual affair with
no sign of the traditional white wedding car. Instead
the couple arranged for a pair of Little Pot Scania
tractor units adorned with white ribbons to make this
a set of wedding photographs with a difference!
