Quick
Wins –
Your Chance to Improve Our Roads
Dear Colleague,
The West Midlands Business Transport Group (WMBTG), working with the region's local councillors, is undertaking a survey of congestion hot spots across the West Midlands to identify potential quick win measures to improve traffic flow, lessen congestion and reduce unnecessary emissions. We need you and your contacts, drawing from your expertise and experience of the region’s road network, to tell us about the congestion problems in the West Midlands.
The WMBTG comprises of all major business representation organisations in the West Midlands including the Confederation of West Midlands Chambers of Commerce, CBI, FSB, EEF as well as the Freight Transport Association and the Road Haulage Association . The objectives of the WMBTG are to advocate the views of the region’s business community on transport issues at a local, regional, national and European stage.
One of the major priorities of the WMBTG has been to ensure the implementation and introduction of a comprehensive ‘Quick Win’ programme across the West Midlands. After a sustained lobbying of local and regional decision makers on this issue, we are now working with them to assess congestion and potential Quick Win solutions via
this
survey.
It’ll be no surprise to you that congestion costs businesses in the region c. £2.2 billion every year. Quick Wins are a low cost and effective means of reducing this in a short amount of time. Quick Wins are directed at providing rapid, mainly small scale and cost effective highway initiatives to increase network capacity at congestion hotspots. Examples of Quick Wins include changing signage, road markings, traffic signal phasing changes and making minor improvements within highway boundaries.
The survey asks you to identify congestion black spots anywhere in the West Midlands. It then asks you what quick win solutions could potentially address these problems. The survey is open to you, your colleagues, clients and contacts. It is easy and quick to complete. The deadline for participating is 2nd May 2008.
